Description

Teenage Girl Drowns after Canoe Overturns in Creek Last Update: Apr 17, 2007 9:11 AM (Westerlo, N.Y.) AP — A 15-year-old girl died Monday night after a canoe she was in overturned on a rain-swollen creek outside Albany. The Albany County Sheriff’s Department says the girl and her 14-year-old brother put the canoe into the raging waters of the Basic Creek near their home in the town of Westerlo, 20 miles southwest of Albany. Deputies say the canoe tipped over in the icy water. The boy managed to make it out safely but his sister was swept away in the strong current. Emergency crews recovered her body about 40 minutes later. Authorities say she died just after 10 p.m. at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Source: AP
