Description

Non-Witness Narrative by Richard Morse on 2007-04-22 (okay to publish): TEXT ATTACHMENTS Police recovered body of man who drowned after canoe capsized Published: Sunday, April 22, 2007 SOUTH FALLSBURG, N.Y. – Police on Saturday recovered the body of a man who drowned in Pleaseure Lake when his canoe capsized the day before. Bashir Chokri, 41, was found at about 11 a.m. Saturday. The Tunisian man was fishing with a friend, Kurt O’Reilly, 31, of Montgomery, Friday in the Hudson Valley when their canoe dipped sending both men into the water. O’Reilly managed to survive the 40-degree water and swam about 150 feet back to shore. When he reached the shore, O’Reilly called authorities, found a rowboat and tried to reach his companion, police said. Neither man was wearing a life vest, police said. O’Reilly was treated for hypothermia at an area hospital. Information from: The Times Herald-Record, http://www.th-record.com A service of the Associated Press(AP)
