37-year-old Colorado man drowned in Colorado River after he was thrown from a raft PAGE, Ariz. — A 37-year-old Colorado man drowned in Colorado River rapids after he was thrown from a raft. The National Park Service said Monday that Michael Gregory DonCarlos of Nederland, Colo. was thrown from his raft and into the river’s rapids on Saturday in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The drowning occurred in Cataract Canyon at a set of rapids known as Big Drop 2, about 30 miles upriver from Hite, Utah. The water pulled Don Carlos under and he drowned. His body was recovered at the accident site. Don Carlos had been rafting the river with friends. The Glen Canyon National Recreation Area encircles the area around Lake Powell on the Arizona-Utah line.
