Description

Non-Witness Narrative by duane dearborn on 2012-07-10 (okay to publish): I am a beginning kayaker (still my first season- with an unreliable roll) and was kayaking with several more experienced boaters. After going for a swim and recovering boat and paddle i was about to get back into my boat when I slipped off a rock into knee deep water. At the bottom of the rock was a pair of hemostats (lost by a fisherman in years past) which pierced my shoe and my foot- going several inches up into my heel. Friends hiked to the road and got a ride to a phone where they called an ambulance and also flagged down a commercial boater to give me a ride down to where there was river access from the road. One evening in the hospital- with minor surgery to clean out the wound, and 6 weeks later I’m ready to get on the water again.
