Granite County Sheriff’s Office: Rescuers recover the body of a Montana man by Laurel Staples, NBCMontana.com Monday, June 18th 2018 Missoula, Mont. — According to the Granite County Sheriff’s Office rescuers recovered the body of a Montana man about 4 miles downstream of a reported overturned raft. The name is the man is currently being withheld pending family notification. Authorities were dispatched to the lower Rock Creek area at 4:37 Sunday afternoon for a report of a capsized raft on a log jam. One person was reported to make it to safety when the raft capsized. Another man was reported to not come out from the capsized raft. The unidentified man was wearing a life jacket when the incident occurred. Granite County Deputies, search and rescue crews, Life Flight and the Missoula Swift Water Rescue responded to the incident. Waters in Western Montana continue to be very high, swift and cold and the Granite County Sheriff’s Office would like to send a reminder to all rafters using rivers and streams to use extreme caution. Sheriff IDs man who died after raft overturned on Rock Creek DILLON KATO dillon.kato@missoulian.com Jun 19, 2018 Granite County Sheriff Scott Dunkerson has identified the man who drowned after his raft overturned on Rock Creek over the weekend as 71-year-old Alfred Tully of Missoula. Officers received reports around 4:30 p.m. Sunday that a raft hit a log jam. While one rider was able to make it to shore, Tully did not. Hours later, his body was found around 4 miles downstream. Dunkerson said river conditions are dangerous around the area, and more so after the rain on Monday and Tuesday. Anyone on the water should use extreme caution.
