Description

1 person missing, another found safe after canoe overturns on Mississippi River AUG 14, 2021 LOUIS (KMOV.com) – For hours, rescue crews were searching for a man who was on a canoe that overturned in the Mississippi River near the Chain of Rocks Bridge Saturday afternoon. Around noon, a caller told a dispatcher that a canoe with two people overturned in the Mississippi River near the Chain of Rocks Bridge at around 11:50 a.m. Rescue crews found the woman downstream with the canoe. Crews told News 4 the canoe sank as they pulled her out. She’s in stable condition. The man tried to swim to the Missouri side of the river bank but hasn’t been seen since. The city’s fire department had crews both on the water and the banks. The department stopped the search around 3 p.m. “It’s a very challenging river to be out on a recreational basis,” Fire Captain Garon Mosby said.
