Two kayakers were found dead on the North Fork of the Shenandoah. Firefighters responding to a report of an “overturned kayak” found two paddlers in the river below Cootes Store. Both were dead, no PFD’s in use, no witnesses. ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) – Two Rockingham County men were killed in a fatal kayak accident on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River on Sunday May 19th. Around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting an overturned kayak that had been spotted on the river near the 7100 block of Brocks Gap Road. When sheriff’s deputies and fire and rescue personnel arrived on scene they found a second overturned kayak. As the investigation continued around 6 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office located and retrieved the bodies of both men. The victims were a 32-year-old man from Timberville and a 31-year-old man from Fulks Run.
