Woman dies, her husband rescued after falling into Deschutes River while paddleboarding by KATU Staff, Portland, OR Fri, May 30th 2025 Deschutes River at Pringle Falls, about six miles west of La Pine – Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office photo DESCHUTES COUNTY, Ore. — A woman died Thursday after falling in the Deschutes River while paddleboarding near Pringle Falls, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said. First responders were called out at about 1:20 p.m. Thursday on reports that two paddleboarders fell in the water and one was possibly trapped in the rapids at Pringle Falls. First responders found a woman entangled underwater, partially visible and “in a very treacherous location” near the falls. They lost sight of her while trying to get her out. The woman’s husband was helped out of the river downstream from the falls. Deputies and swift water rescue teams joined first responders from the La Pine and Sunriver Fire Departments, and Oregon State Police troopers in searching the river for several hours. They used drones to help with the search. At about 7:30 p.m., the woman was located further downriver, and the teams recovered her from the water. Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and everyone affected by this tragedy,” the sheriff’s office said. “As we head into warmer months, the Sheriff’s Office urges everyone planning to spend time on the water to wear a properly fitted life jacket and to be aware of river conditions before exploring,” the sheriff’s office continued. “The Deschutes River and other waterways in our region can be deceptively hazardous, especially during spring runoff or after heavy rains. Please take the time to check current conditions, know your limits and ensure you have the right equipment to stay safe.” Two paddle boarders we’re reported as paddling “near Pringle Falls” on the Deschutes River. One was swept into Pringle Falls, a class 4 with no legal scout that sometimes surprises paddlers on the class 1 section above. When rescuers arrived, they reported observing her “entangled” in the river. They were unable to rescue her before she disappeared, apparently to wash downstream. Her body was found several hours later downstream. The other paddle boarder was rescued after washing through the falls. https://bendbulletin.com/2025/05/30/la-pine-woman-dies-after-being-trapped-in-rapids-at-pringle-falls/
