Description

There was a drowning on the St Croix River Saturday June 14th. The river is the international border between New Brunswick, Canada and Maine, USA. This section of river is class 1-2 water. The victim was 78 and was in a canoe. His health was declining so this was going to be their last time paddling the St Croix. They were skilled and experienced enough for this section. The canoe capsized in one of the rapids (class 2) and he went down river with the canoe while his friend was able to make it to shore. He was wearing a life jacket but no helmet. When the medics recovered his body he was pretty banged up and they’re not sure if it was head trauma or drowning.
