Gunnison’s Black Canyon NCA Increased

December 1, 2003

Sam Lindblom photographed by Will Crim on Black Canyon On Tuesday, November 4, the House of Representatives passed S. 677, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area Boundary Revision Act of 2003.  The bill, which was sponsored by Representative Campbell (R-CO), revises the boundaries of both the park and the BLM-managed National Conservation Area (NCA).  In the case of the NCA it would increase the size by approximately 7,100 acres to nearly 63,000 acres.  The bill incorporates BLM land acquired following designation and makes minor boundary adjustments.  The Administration supported the legislation.  The House passage of the bill now clears the legislation for signing by the White House. The bill is expected to be signed.
