American Whitewater just completed a successful Board meeting in Portland, OR and we greatly appreciate the efforts of local volunteers like Megi who helped make this such a great event. While the Board Meeting allowed us an opportunity to do some strategic planning for the organization over the next few years, we also took some time to explore a couple of local rivers. Megi served as local host and joined us on tours of the White Salmon and Sandy Rivers where dams are scheduled to be removed. A big shout of thanks out to Sam Drevo and Dave Hoffman of eNRG Kayaking who made boats available for board members who were flying in from out of town. This provided an opportunity for everyone to see first hand some of the spectacular resources of the Pacific Northwest.
The other big event for the weekend was our fundraiser dinner in Portland. Through the generiosity of the regional paddling community and our sponsors we were able to raise over $8000 in support of AW’s regional stewardship work. Megi played a key role in this event assisting with recruiting folks to attend and helping with local logistics.
A big round of thanks to all our local sponsors and affiliate clubs who helped with this event. Sponsors included Keen Footwear, eNRG Kayaking, Lower Columbia Canoe Club, Next Adventure, Northwest Rafters Association, Oregon Kayak and Canoe Club, Oregon Whitewater Association, and Willamette Kayak and Canoe Club. The community’s support of our work is greatly appreciated.
We look forward to seeing everyone again at the Upper Clackamas Whitewater Festival in a couple weeks.
