Presenting the 2004 National Paddling Film Festival
The National Paddling Film Festival (NPFF) is coming soon, bigger and better than ever. This unique event is a competition of images, all related to human powered watercraft, in film, video, digital and still media, by amateurs, professionals, and accomplished hobbyists. The festival is unique as it encourages paddlers to pick up a camera or camcorder, getting involved in portraying their favorite streams and paddling partners, then sharing those images to generate fun and funds for American Whitewater, American Canoe Association and other river conservation efforts. So important at a time when our rivers are more threatened than ever. Thanks to the generous support of the paddling community for 21 years the NPFF has become a consistent source of support for river conservation and access. And most of all, it’s a really great time.
The 21st National Paddling Film Festival will take place Saturday, February 28, 2004 from 10 am to 6 pm at the Kentucky Theater on Main St. in downtown Lexington, Kentucky and will be followed that evening by a lively Awards Party around the corner at the Limestone Club.
Entries from across the nation and globe will be competing before a distinguished panel of judges of paddlers, artists and media professionals in a competition to win recognition and awards including the audience determined Paddler’s Choice Award. See the world’s best paddlers and filmmakers challenge their limits. View runs on rivers that will make you rush out and update your passport. Learn new paddling techniques and share stories with paddlers from all over the country and the world.
Deadline for video entries is January 23, 2004.
Meet and hear a talk given by special guest Corran Addison, one of the world’s most prolific documentary, entertainment and instructional whitewater filmmakers and digital artists as he discusses the challenges of filming on difficult and remote whitewater as well as the technical adventures involved in the editing and production of DVDs and videos. Corran will also be helping with handing out the accolades to the winners of the competition at the Awards Party starting at 9pm following the show on Saturday.
In addition to the film competition, there will be a still photo contest. Initial voting for the still photos will take place on-line prior to the festival, and the finalists will be shown and voted on by the audience at the NPFF. The top 6 finalists of the Best Paddling Image Competition will win a NPFF Poster displaying their images. Voting will occur via email and submitted images will appear on the NPFF website.
Deadline for still photo contest is February 13, 2004.
And don’t forget the Silent Auction at the NPFF. Dozens of generous sponsors have donated a wide variety of gear to be auctioned off to raise money for river conservation. Some vendors will have items available for sale, and several conservation organizations will have information available about river related issues.
So plan to enter and attend the National Paddling Film Festival to help contribute to American Whitewater and the rivers, get inspired about paddling, meet other paddlers and filmmakers and have an all around great time.
