Events Coordinator

Description:
The Events Coordinator is located in the Weaverville, NC Events Office and reports to the Events Director. The Coordinator will work with the Events Director to manage American Whitewater’s extensive events program encompassing both American Whitewater festivals and the National Organization of Whitewater Rodeo administration. The coordinator will represent American Whitewater in a professional manner both in planning for events and on-site. The position involves extensive travel during the spring, summer and fall and overtime is required. The Coordinator must be very familiar with NOWR judging, rules and competitions, festival and competition event logistics, whitewater industry, and have an avid interest in supporting American Whitewater’s mission.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Events: Responsible for development and implementation of American Whitewater events program, under the guidance of the Events Director, including establishing and carrying out guidelines for event participation, coordinating event scheduling, and securing and managing event insurance programs.
Communications: Establishes strong communication channels with Events Director, event organizers, athlete spokespeople and sponsors. Should have excellent telephone and Internet skills. Will develop judge certification program for NOWR competitions.
Sponsorship: Responsible for securing and implementing sponsorship for a select group of American Whitewater events.
Journal: Responsible for writing and soliciting event articles for the bi-monthly magazine American Whitewater.
Website: Responsible for maintenance of the NOWR website including all postings, results, website design and other pertinent information.
Athletes: Develops strong working relationship with key athlete representatives and actively enlists their support of American Whitewater through event initiatives.
Administrative: Assembles mailings and maintains athlete, sponsor and organizer databases. Responsible for organizing and maintaining NOWR National Point Series Championship.
General: Participates in general staff responsibilities, including meetings, record keeping, administration and so forth. Salary is commensurate with experience.Ê Travel and availability on evenings and weekends are required.
Position Essential Qualifications:
- Proven background in working with volunteers and participation with whitewater events as a significant volunteer or organizer is preferred.
- Marketing and/or sales background preferred.
- Knowledge of the whitewater industry and contacts with industry players. Avid interest in supporting American Whitewater.
- Strong Computer and Internet Skills including website management and design, Microsoft Office products (Access, Excel, Word, Powerpoint) and Adobe Illustrator.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proven ability to interact successfully with a broad range of people and personalities.
- Self-starter, able to set up programs and make independent decisions on a daily basis.
- Excellent organizational and management skills including communications, teamwork, and small office management and support.
