Last week, a provision in a federal budget bill that would have allowed mining companies to purchase millions of acres of publc lands for development was removed from the bill.  Americans rallied against this blatant attempt at privitizing our public lands, and sent calls and emails to House and Senate leaders in large numbers.

We would like to thank all the paddlers out there that took a moment to call or write their political representatives.  Your time was well spent, and because of you countless rivers will be protected and maintianed as accessible public waterways.  You were not alone either.  A wide reaching group of environmental groups and other recreationists responded strongly to this challenge.  In turn, a bipartisan group of senators fought the provision.  Finally, the mining industry withdrew its provision.

Calls and letters do make a difference so keep up the great work everyone!   Through vigilance and activism we can all help protect the rivers and special places that we treasure.  Thanks Everyone!
