SPRING FOR THE RIVER! A NIGHT OF MUSIC, SILENT AUCTION BARGAINS AND CAJUN FOOD TO BENEFIT THE LYONS RIVER PROJECT

Join the Town of Lyons at Oskar Blues on Sunday, March 19TH for a fundraising party to help build a world-class whitewater feature on the St. Vrain River. The extravaganza will include a Cajun buffet, bluegrass music by Whitewater Ramble and a huge silent auction. The new whitewater feature will be a keystone for a new town park, which will be dedicated to the Town of Lyons later this year. The new feature, “the October Hole”, is the third and final phase of the Lyons River Project. Lyons has completed two projects on the Saint Vrain River in the past 5 years. These whitewater enhancements have greatly improved the community’s personality, recreational and economic opportunities and are highly regarded by kayakers, swimmers and tubers. Lyons is quickly becoming an outdoor Mecca for the Front Range. The completion of the October Hole, will solidify Lyons as a destination for whitewater enthusiast giving it the longest season through October 31st of any whitewater park in Colorado. This feature will provide visitors and citizens of Lyons with a unique recreational opportunity from learning to kayak to spending a lazy afternoon watching kayakers at play.

The proposed site for the new whitewater feature is truly unique to Colorado. Not only does it have a long season, but also it has an optimum stream gradient, easy access and natural beauty. The high autumn flows are due to water being diverted from Carter Lake for irrigation and drinking water purposes. This project also provides a unique relationship between whitewater enthusiasts and the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District. Where other Towns are battling the State Government for Water Rights for recreational purposes, the October Hole actually takes advantage of diverted water and is only possible because of the cooperation of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District.

The benefit starts at 6 pm and will go through the evening until 11 pm. The cost of this benefit will be $25.00 with $15.00 being a tax-deductible donation. The $25.00 entry fee gets you an incredible Cajun buffet, the special bluegrass dance sound of Whitewater Ramble, one of bluegrass stars of Northern Colorado and a huge silent auction. The silent auction will feature items donated by companies from Jackson Kayaks, Riot Kayaks, Kelty, Spyder, Smith Sunglasses, and many, many more. There is going to be bargains abound with all funds going to the Lyons River Park- on the St. Vrain River. There is limited space at Oskar Blues and tickets are sure to sell out fast so be sure to get your tickets early. For tickets to this great party, call Oskar Blues at 303-823-6685.

About Lyons and the St Vrain River: Lyons is a small, quaint but blossoming community located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountain in northwest Boulder County. First settled in the 1880’s, Lyons was established as a mining and agricultural center. Sandstone from the quarries in Lyons can be found in prominent buildings all over the country. Lyons, located 12 miles North of Boulder and 8 miles West of Longmont, is blessed with spectacular scenic beauty. Unique geological formations frame the town and the North and South St. Vrain Creeks converge to create the St. Vrain River in Bohn Park. Further, the town is adjacent to Hall, Heil and Rabbit Mountain Open Spaces providing over 13,000 acres of mountain terrain to be explored on mountain bikes and by hiking these fabulous trails. Highway 66 and 36 lead visitors through Lyons dubbed the “Double Gateway to the Rockies”, en route to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. With the addition of the Lyons Whitewater Park, now there is just one more reason to come visit Lyons!
