Are you an outfitter, rafting guide or boater on the White Salmon River? Are you passionate about the conservation of the White Salmon River?

If so, please join us for the first White Salmon RiverFest this Wednesday (6/7)–a program of the Headwaters Institute hosted locally by Wet Planet. The goal of the event will be to bring the river community together to advance our collective knowledge of the White Salmon River watershed, its ecosysetm and the major issues facing the river. A full-day symposium will take place at Wind River Cellars, Husum, WA from 9 am to 4:30 pm. A social float is scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 and the Boater’s Party will begin at 6:30. Registration for the whole day is $15 or $10 for just the evening dinner and party. AW Pacific Northwest Stewardship Director Thomas O’Keefe will be taking part in this event and present an overview of the potential for a restored White Salmon River following removal of Condit Dam.

There were be several presenters who are experts on the river, covering such topics as:

  • Update on plans for removal of Condit Dam, the effect on the White Salmon River and the Whitewater Recreation Community.
  • White Salmon River within Wild and Scenic River System.
  • White Salmon Hydrology.
  • Native American historic and current uses of the White Salmon River.
  • Special Guest Speaker: Val Shaull.

This event is a program of the Headwaters Institute whose mission is to provide education that inspires individuals and communities to care for and connect with their watershed. American Whitewater’s National Stewardship Director Kevin Colburn serves on the Advisory Committee for this great organization.
