AMERICAN WHITEWATER EVENTS MANAGER

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY: The American Whitewater Events Director is responsible for planning and implementing a program of events that are consistent with the organization’s Mission. These events
– offer grassroots education and appreciation for local and national resources;
– celebrate (i.e., promotes) the accomplishment and seeds the vision of the technical American Whitewater programs – Conservation, Access, and Safety
– endorse advanced skills through competition; and
– provide a valued option for organizational funding through corporate sponsorship and event- specific revenue
REPORTS TO: American Whitewater Executive Director
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
American Whitewater events include and may not be restricted to the following:
Whitewater Festivals
– On or near a whitewater river
– Off river, held by and for members of the whitewater boating community
– Off river for a broader audience – film debut/festivals, etc.)
Competition
– National Organization of Whitewater Rodeos
– Class IV-V downriver races
– Citizens/local races, freestyle events and rodeos
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sponsorship: Responsible for initiating, negotiating and maintaining event sponsorship and our relationship with sponsor representatives. This includes developing proposals, organizing meetings, and monitoring sponsorship from inception to execution.
LOC Facilitation: Provide consultative assistance and services to local organizing committees, as necessary, leveraging the office experience with event of all types. A key service for organizers is the availability of American Whitewater Event Insurance: the Events Director manages the acquisition and maintenance of liability insurance programs as it relates to events and permitting.
Membership: Incorporate membership initiatives at events through American Whitewater promotional campaigns at AW booths, printed collateral, personal solicitation, raffles, and other.
Marketing
Meet or exceed target audience expectations for the benefits of American Whitewater membership, advocacy and volunteer effort using the Event Program as the ‘stage’ for the fun, active connection between AW technical programming and sheer recreational fun:
1D Image: producing and distributing timely press releases, publicizing results and articles in the American Whitewater journal and other publicity venues, as is possible.
2D Image: Develop marketing and advertising collateral, such as the annual NOWR poster and Competition Guide, that promote and establish American Whitewater¡¦s presence in events.
3D Image: Publicize and promote event program by cultivating relationships and strong communications links with
– event organizers
– endemic and non-endemic media
– industry representatives
– peers among national/international governing bodies
– athletes
Budget: Assist American Whitewater Executive Director in developing sound annual events budget and monitoring overall financial health of the program throughout the year.
Support other American Whitewater programs with cross-function project and promotional assistance.
Solicit and utilize experience offered by American Whitewater Board and other Staff members.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
„h Experience planning and executing competitive events, festival, and / or public celebrations.
„h Experience soliciting and servicing sponsorship and /or partnership agreements
„h Excellent communications (writing, verbal / presentation) skills
„h Strong organizational skills
„h Experienced with spreadsheet and database tools
„h Involvement with outdoor sports (as an organizer or user) helpful, not required
„h Familiarity with tools used for hard, soft and web-based design
„h Proven track record for fiscal management and budgeting
„h Personally resilient, with an unflappable sense of humor
