Potomac Fest 2008

This July was once again the host to the popular Potomac River Festival just outside of our nation’s capitol in Washington, DC. Less than 14 miles from the White House, this section of the Potomac saw three days of competition including freestyle, surfing, downriver racing of the Class V+ falls (photo on front page), and a community paddle with awards for best costume and oldest boat. The weekend was capped off with a Saturday night festival that featured food and drinks, a live band, local and national vendors, plus a silent auction and membership drive for American Whitewater. If you missed this year’s fest you can at least check out some of the event photos but be sure to make it in 2009 – we’ll see you there!

Deerfield Fest 2008

Combined mountain biking and downriver race? Raft Guide Olympics for pride and prizes? Vendors, food, drinks, live music, three days of river releases and whitewater enthusiasts all in one place? It can only mean one thing – Deerfield Fest. This year’s fest was a big hit with as much to do on river as there was off. American Whitewater’s tent at the festival grounds was filled with people vying for their favorite silent auction item plus tons of people signing up to join or renew with AW. The night closed with a bang as AW raffled and auctioned five brand new boats! If you’ve got a cool photo from the event we can use send it along to us at jeff@americanwhitewater.org and maybe you’ll see it on the website for the 2009 fest. Thanks to everyone who helped out and made the event a success and we’ll see you next year!
