Steve offers this overview of his internship: "Being part of the AW team has helped me understand what all exactly this organization deals with, and the true value of volunteers. I have been working on many Stewardship projects for AW beginning with development of the success story of the CheoahRiver (story should be posted to the website soon). From there I started developing a database for the FERC Releases, which will be used nationally for hydro power relicensing efforts. I have also had a hand in research for the Nolichucky Wild and Scenic designation, as well as tracking the Cheoah Rivercane Restoration Project. On the Festival side of things, I have represented AW at the Potomac Festival, National Paddling Film Festival and many events in the southeast. I have had a hand in journal articles, web articles, and a contribution to the River Management newsletter. The experiences and knowledge I have gained through my internship is very satisfying. I feel that American Whitewater is a quality organization that strives for perfection in supporting whitewater enthusiasts."
A big thank you to Steve! As Volunteer of the Month, Steve will receive an Outer Core shirt from Kokatat.
