American Whitewater would like to recognize Doug Ammons of Missoula, MT as our December Volunteer of the Month.

Many whitewater enthusiasts know of Doug for his extensive accomplishments in the cockpit of a kayak. His paddling adventures are a dream list of world-class, big-water descents all over the world. Including the only solo descent of the Grand Canyon of the Stikine in British Columbia.

American Whitewater members may also recognize Doug from his numerous and very popular contributions to the AW Journal including a recent three part series on fear and whitewater. These articles, like all articles and photos in the AW Journal, are user-submitted and provided without monetary compensation to the authors.

Recently Doug offered to make his book "Laugh of the Water Nymph" available as part of AW’s Holiday Membership Offer. However, this contribution does more than just support AW’s mission and encourage membership as Doug donates all the proceeds of this book to supporting the Dunai Boarding School in Nepal. To learn more about this school and how you can help check out www.friendsofdolpa.org.

Thanks Doug for all your support and hard work! Doug will receive an Outer Core Shirt from Kokatat in recognition.
