Each year, past American Whitewater Volunteer of the Month Bob Focht rounds up volunteers to assist at the whitewater releases on the Tallulah River (GA). This year, he needs your help. Please considering signing up to help out!
Spring releases are on the following dates: April 3-4 and 10-11. Approximately thirty volunteers are needed each weekend. Volunteers can also sign up online at http://sites.google.com/site/fallstallulah. You can also contact Bob Focht directly at 404-323-8181 or bobfocht@yahoo.com.
If possible, please volunteer April 4, Easter Sunday (morning or afternoon), and April 11 in the afternoon. These will be the hardest shifts to fill.
Also, please see this word document on Takeout Parking instructions for boaters.
Volunteers are the only people allowed at the put-in beside boaters and park rangers. If you are a boater or a volunteer and want someone else to be able to go to the put-in, please have her/him volunteer. Shifts are 8 am-noon and 11:00 am-3:00 pm. An orientation and travel to the volunteer sites are included in the first hour. There is also a 3:00 pm-4:30 pm shift for one or two people. We would like to identify at least three sweep boaters who will be the last boaters on the river each day.
Sponsoring clubs for the dam releases are Georgia Canoe Association,(GCA) April 3-4, the Foothill Paddling Club (Greenville, South Carolina) April 10-11, Paddlers for Christ, the Atlanta Whitewater Club, and ORGT (Georgia Tech).
