American Whitewater is proud to announce Adam Rettig as our December Volunteer of the Month!

AW's Kevin Colburn had this to say about Adam's overall stellarness:

A few months ago Adam Rettig called us up and offered to volunteer his mad statistics skills and knowledge of water management. He didn't really care what the project was – he just wanted to help out and keep his skills sharp.

After discussing a few possible projects the perfect opportunity came up for Adam to help us out. The dam that dewaters the New River Dries was in the initial stages of re-licensing and American Whitewater had to argue for recreational and ecological flow studies.

These studies will form the basis for future flow negotiations and are a vital step in restoring a river. Adam dug into the hydrologic data for the New and produced an analysis and high-impact graphs depicting the effects the dam has on the river. His analysis showed that the dam eliminates roughly 240 days of paddling opportunities each year, and forecloses almost all summer flows. Adam helped us make a strong case for restoring the New River, and is fired up to keep helping on this and other projects. Thanks Adam!

In recognition of his efforts, Adam with be receiving a custom Kokatat OuterCore shirt! Thanks Adam!
