American Whitewater Freestyle (AWF) and the United StatesFreestyle Kayak Association (USFKA) To Offer Whitewater Freestyle JudgeTraining Courses Across The Country
Asheville, NC- American Whitewater, the nation’s premierwhitewater event organizing body, and the USFKA, the rule governing body offreestyle kayaking in the US, have announced that they will be collaborating onoffering at least four freestyle judge training programs this year.
“These classes represent a new commitment to quality andpushes a higher standard of competition. . . it’s awesome to see AW and theUSFKA come together on a project like this” says Shane Benedict, Designer forLiquidlogic Kayaks and vice president of the USFKA. Michael Phelan the Events Director for American Whitewaterbelieves that “these new classes will help to address one of the number oneconcerns expressed by event organizers.” The new model is loosely based upon the judge training programestablished for professional snowboarding competitions.
Currently there are training programs scheduled in Kentuckyat the National Paddling Film Festival, in California at the Teva KernWhitewater Festival, in Oregon at the Teva Oregon Cup, and in Wyoming at theTeva Wyoming Whitewater National Championships.
The first training will be held in conjunction with theNational Paddling Film Festival in Lexington Kentucky, on Sunday, February 24th.
