2002 Teva Tour Online Registration to Start February 15th at Active.com.

Asheville, NC—For 2002, AW will be beginning the online registration process for all athletes wishing to participate in the 2002 Teva Tour starting February 15th.

American Whitewater and Teva have teamed up to deliver a series of the fourteen best whitewater events all culminating with the first ever National Championships. The series includes four regional geographic circuits located in the Northeast, Southeast, Rocky Mtns., and Pacific Coast. Each regional circuit includes three events. Athletes will receive points at each event to earn a spot to compete at the “Teva Whitewater National Championship”.

All athletes wishing to participate in the 2002 Teva Tour must register with American Whitewater Freestyle (AWF). In the recent past, only Pro athletes were required to register in order to compete. In 2002, all athletes must register in order to allow American Whitewater and event organizers to track each athlete’s points and rank them according to class and gender. If a professional or amateur athlete achieves a high enough ranking the paddler will be invited to attend the first National Whitewater Championships. The Championships will take place on the Ocoee River between October 10th-13th. The National Championships will determine an athlete’s ability to achieve Pro status for 2003. In past years, athletes have been able to earn Pro status by placing in the top five at three American Whitewater events. This ascension system is no longer available.

Athletes wishing to register to compete may do so by registering online at Active.com or in person at an event. When using the Active.com system conduct a search for “AWF Competitor Registration” using the Active.com’s search function. The online registration process offers many benefits to the paddler. Benefits include being able to receive emails with event standings and quick convenient competition registration at events. Onsite registration will take place in association with the event’s normal competition registration. Once registered, athletes will receive an AWF registration card that will greatly reduce the amount of time an athlete will spend waiting in line at future events. Athletes taking advantage of the Active.com system will be able to avoid waiting in line to register at the very first event that they attend. AWF registration cards will be available at the first event an athlete attends.

Starting in 2002, all Pro athletes will be assigned a bib and number for the entire 2002 Teva Tour. The Pro athlete will be responsible for the bib and its return at the end of the season.

AWF is a component of American Whitewater’s larger events program. American Whitewater is an organization dedicated to conserving and restoring America’s whitewater resources and to enhance opportunities to enjoy them safely.
