(Silver Spring, MD) – American Whitewater has released its new logo, a graphic that reinforces the organization’s two-letter abbreviation and its recent move toward an aggressive promotion of its mission and membership to whitewater paddlers and the outdoor industry that supports whitewater recreation.

“We are truly pleased to have a new logo that helps us communicate quickly and easily,” notes Risa Shimoda, American Whitewater Executive Director. “ When the logo is shown with the words ‘American Whitewater’ spelled out, the message is serious and unequivocable. When we use it without the words, it is classy way to state our ‘AW’ abbreviation.

“We are pleased to have a new logo that attendees at an event, or someone reading a hat or t-shirt can read easily,” notes Barry Tuscano, American Whitewater President. “Our former logo was tough to make out unless you were familiar with our organization. I am all for the straightforward, and this one is.”

“This logo makes a clear statement of ‘getting current,’ joining the new millenium with a very bold and contemporary look,” notes designer Tom Windham of Windham Designs. “Yet, it maintains the straightforward reference to rivers and the organization’s ‘AW’ in an emblematic way that should appeal to loyal members and longtime paddlers.” The outdoor community will begin to see the new American Whitewater logo on its March issue of the American Whitewater journal, at events and at americanwhitewater.org.
