The Friends of Blackwater Canyon in West Virginia is hosting a
celebration. The event marks the end of Earth Week, the coming of spring
and showcases the 500 acres of newly protected land at the Canyon! The
Celebration will take place April 27 and 28. There will be free hiking,
biking and kayaking. Hikes will be lead by the State Park naturalist, a
local storyteller, and a West Virginia artist. Hikes range from gentle bird
watching strolls to a three hour hike through the Canyon.

In January a 500 acre parcel of land near Blackwater Falls was obtained
by the state. The new property increases the size of Blackwater Falls State
Park by about a third and includes the last mile of unprotected river
between the town of Davis and the Blackwater Canyon. On Saturday the Park
Superintendent will lead a hike along the new property. There will be a
chance to learn about new stream and fishing access.
This is a special weekend for nature lovers to meet and enjoy the Blackwater
Canyon with family and friends! For a schedule of events call
