VA, DE, PA, RI, FL, & MT Boaters: Please Call Senate to Improve Water Quality

May 15, 2002

Residents of

Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Florida, and Montana:

Your Senators will cast pivotal votes in a committee hearing this Thursday authorizing funds for water infrastructure. Please call or write your Senator today, and ask him to support the Wyden amendment for non-structural solutions and environmental approaches. Take action.

On Thursday, May 16, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee will vote to authorize $35 billion in water infrastructure funding. Senator Wyden has proposed an amendment to the bill, S. 1961, that would ensure that the funds are used for the greatest water quality and overall environmental benefit, and that at least 10% is used to fund projects that address nonpoint source pollution – the nation’s leading water quality problem – and utilize more cost- effective and environmentally beneficial nonstructural approaches, such as stream buffers, land aquisition and conservation easements, wetlands restoration, stormwater gardens, eco-roofs, and decentralized wastewater treatment.

Tell your Senator that you support American Whitewater and ask them to vote in favor of the Wyden amendment that will provide greater water quality benefits and stretch taxpayer dollars.

Send an email or a fax to your Senator. A call or a fax is a great way to get your message heard.
