Deerfield Riverfest was a HUGE Success!Due to the efforts of many volunteers, generous sponsors, and the patronage of the Northeastern paddling community the Deerfield Riverfest was able to raise several thousand dollars to support AW’s conservation and access work. One boater said “I wait for this fest all year and it is even better than Christmas because it lasts a whole weekend.” Great music by the Hemlock Gorge Boys, world famous barbeque, and great new activities made the Deerfield Riverfest better than ever.Helping to round out the success of the festival was the introduction of three new activities. A smashing success in its first year, the AW Used Boat Sale sold 15 boats and raised $300 for AW. Thank you Kaz and Phil for coming up with this great idea and bringing it into fruition. Also taking on a much larger role this year was the Official “Nails Tourney” hosted by Brett and Mark. If you are not sure what “Nails” is then you are going to have to come to the 2003 Deerfield Riverfest to find out. (Hint—Don’t wear sandals unless you are very good) Finally, the Wilderness Experiences BoaterX introduced the Deerfield River to the excitement of racing and battling your paddling comrades while blasting down a Class IV rapid. All competition results are now posted, please check out the results and look for the names of people you know in the results section of the website.A special thanks goes out to our sponsors Wilderness Experiences Unlimited, Zoar Outdoor, Red Bull, PG & E, and New England Flow. All in all bright sunshine, hot temps, and good clean fun resulted in a great weekend. Thank you and we look forward to seeing everyone next year.
