American Whitewater thanks the Georgia Canoeing Association for their $1000 contribution on August 10th for American Whitewater’s river access activities. This gift from the board and members of the GCA was a welcome surprise!

American Whitewater will use this contribution to support Kevin Colburn’s work in the southeast. Kevin is American Whitewater’s Eastern Regional Associate and is based in our Asheville, NC office where he will be working on the following projects during the next several months:

  • Restoring legal access to the headwaters of the Chattooga River, while advocating for fair management of the Sections II, III, and IV of the Chattooga.
  • Working closely with the Tallulah Gorge State Park to maintain access to the Tallulah River.
  • Designing new access plans for the Little Tennessee, Tuckasegee, West Fork of the Tuckasegee, East Fork of the Tuckasegee, Cheoah, and Nantahala rivers.
  • Advocating for dam releases, where appropriate, through FERC dam relicensing.
  • Working on statewide navigability designations for rivers in the southeast, beginning with North Carolina.
  • Opposing unreasonable fees on rivers like the Ocoee and Pigeon.
  • Saving rivers from environmental harm across the southeast, so that we all have rivers worth accessing.

Thanks again GCA!
