American Whitewater is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Events Coordinator. This position reports to the Events Director of American Whitewater and is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of the American Whitewater events program.

Reports to: Events Director
Executive Director
Location: Asheville, NC
Description of work responsibilities:
The Events Coordinator will be responsible for creating a presence that is consistent with the mission of American Whitewater. A candidate who is self-motivated, energetic, and capable of working independently of direct supervision will fill this position. The position requires decision-making and problem solving skills sometimes in a stressful environment.
This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining the American Whitewater events infrastructure. This will include vehicles, trailers, sound and light equipment, time clocks, tents etc… Events can and will include but not be limited to competitions, river festivals, and whitewater release dates. This office and onsite event based position will be responsible for assisting the Events Director to design, implement, and evaluate whitewater recreation related events. This position will be responsible for fulfilling onsite event management responsibilities in the absence of the Events Director.
Desired qualifications:
The person who is selected for this position will be able to demonstrate a history of involvement with events, preferably river and outdoor related. The person will have skills and experience that demonstrate an appreciation for managing events in an outdoor environment (meaning with an outdoor-oriented audience, requires physical work, and/or involves the uncertainty of rigging remote outdoors sites.
Office:
This person will have basic office management skills including the ability to use the telephone, computer, and fax. Experience with Microsoft Office is preferred.
Event Management:
Experience that demonstrates knowledge of event planning and management.
Experience with basic construction and electrical principles.
Experience with driving large vehicles and trailers.
Ability to lift and maneuver large heavy objects.
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in recreation or a related field is preferred, but not required.
Unique considerations:
The position will include travel sometimes for extended periods of time. The position will include working weekends and nights.
Benefits:
Salary, vacation and health benefits will be dependent upon the candidate’s experience. Flexible work schedule. Vacation and health benefits become available after 60 days.
