Update on Connecticut Boat Registration Attempt
Paddlers who use Connecticut Rivers,
Three separate bills have been proposed in the Connecticut
State Legislature that would require registration of ALL
vessels over ten feet, another makes the minimum eight feet
and the third would require all users to pass a state
administrated safety course before using a vessel in
Connecticut. Canoes and Kayaks would be included in the
legislation as presently written. Additional information is
available on the HACKS web site.
The web page
contains links to the home pages and email addresses of the
members of the two legislative committees that are involved.
It seems that things are happening fast. The latest
information is the there will be a public hearing on two of
the bills on Tuesday the 18th of February, see:
Public Hearing If you can’t get to the public hearing, at
least send email messages to the legislators so they’ll know
how you feel about this type of legislation. There are
sample letters linked to the HACKS web page on this issue to
give you some ideas on what you might say in your messages.
Most of us will miss this hearing due to the late notice, however emails to the representatives in the day immediately following the hearing could be very important. Please take a couple minutes and use the HACKS page to send an email today!
