Competitors and Spectators Come Join the Fun at the 2003 American River Festival

The American River Conservancy, a local, private, non-profit, river conservation organization and American Whitewater a nationwide non-profit river conservation organization committed to restoring America’s whitewater resources and enhancing opportunities to enjoy them safely.

The events will be held on the South Fork of the American River, one of the most popular whitewater rivers in California. Its large and loyal river community, drawn from all over Northern California, has made it an ideal site for a river festival. This years Festival will be held on April 26th and 27th, following the Trinity River Rodeo and Kern River Festival. It will include a Whitewater Rodeo, wildwater race, slalom race, “live music”, dinner, dance, auction, raffle, booths, and other activities. It is an integral part of the West Coast circuit, attracting world-class competitors.

The first Chili Bar Whitewater Rodeo was held in the spring of 1981, on the South Fork American River. Twenty two years later, volunteers are still coming together to make this festival happen for many purposes: to foster amateur whitewater competition, to increase awareness of river recreation, conservation and river safety, to provide an avenue for participation and unification of the diverse elements of our community, and to provide a source of revenue for the American River Conservancy and American Whitewater, who work hard at preserving our local and national rivers for all to enjoy for generations to come.
