2003 memorial Day Releases on North Branch Potomac (Class I-III)

May 22, 2003

The whitewater releases on the North Branch Potomac from Jennings Randolph Lake are still scheduled for Memorial Day weekend. The Army Corps plans to release about 1000 cfs from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.

If sufficient water remains after the Sunday release there will be an added day of whitewater on Monday. Given the rain this week, the Monday release is likely; and would be scheduled for 850-1000 cfs on Monday from 9:00 AM until Noon.

The normal caveats apply. A release may be cancelled if it will likely result in lake levels that are outside the normal operating range, or in any way result in adverse environmental impacts or property damage. When inflow to the lake is low, a decision to cancel a release would be made one to two weeks in advance. In the event of highwater conditions, a release may be cancelled at any time.
