That’s right, back by popular demand but with a brand new name — “The Thing” at the Tallulah 2003!

On Saturday night, November 15, at the Tallulah boater camping area, friends of American Whitewater will be hosting a FREE BBQ and AMATEUR PADDLING FILM FEST.

“The Thing” is thrown FOR MEMBERS BY MEMBERS in commemoration of the six-year anniversary of AW-secured releases on the Tallulah. Free burgers and dogs grilled to perfection. Free beverages. Movies projected on a big screen including fresh footage taken at Oceana that day. AW sweatshirts, shorts, rash guards, and gear available to buy.

Camping on-site is $4 per person paid to the park. The food and beverages are a free “thank you” provided completely by private donors for new and existing members. So, come out and show your support for AW — there’s no better time to renew that expired membership or sign on for another great year!

The cookout begins around 6:30pm. The cost is FREE to all AW members and $5 for guests of AW members (note, we reserve the right to hassle your guests about their membership, or lack thereof). All renewing members during the Tallulah season will receive their very own commemorative 2003 TALLULAH PLASTIC BEVERAGE CUP, and everyone else can buy unlimited party beverage privileges for $1 (all drinks must be consumed in the official Tallulah beverage cup). Of course, all cup proceeds go to American Whitewater.

Also, please let us know if you have some paddling videos you would love to show the world, well, at least until the projector bulb burns out. We are looking for some entries. Awards will be given for Carnage King (multiple instances or most dramatic carnage), Most Unique Line Through a Rapid (best individual carnage clip), Most Humorous Video, Most Professional Looking Non-Professional Video, and others as we think of them. Bring your camera, your miniDVs, even old VHS tapes. We’ll take them all!
