Tallulah Season is Here!
And this year, we have never needed more commitment from volunteers. Georgia Power has agreed in principle to AW’s proposal to ramp up to an additional 14 days of releases (seven more weekends!) on the Tallulah over the next few years. In order for these extra releases to be possible, we must continue to demonstrate paddlers’ incredible stewardship of the river and state park and volunteer in droves!
Volunteers help AW staff and board members with a variety of important duties, from helping with parking, to staffing the AW tent, to registering boaters, to the two most sought-after positions: stair-duty at the swinging bridge and launch platform — the only ticket into the Gorge without a boat! Volunteering is a lot of fun — each Tallulah weekend is like a mini-river festival — and you will be right in the heart of it!
The dates are November 1-2, 8-9, and 15-16. We need help especially for the first two weekends. All volunteers receive free event parking and those willing to volunteer both days will receive free camping on Saturday night, as well. Volunteer shifts are typically three-hours, leaving plenty of time to paddle (or volunteer some more!).
