The new Sept/Oct American Whitewater Journal should be landing in your mailbox soon and you may notice it looks, feels, and maybe even smells a little different. You may also notice a couple of new logos inside this issue’s first few pages. The new look and feel, and these logos, represent our shift to using Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper and to producing the Journal in a Pure Power certified facility that uses renewable energy sources. The team that produces the Journal has been eager to move to a more sustainable production model and reduce the environmental impact of the printed Journal. We explored some options and we’re happy to announce we’re now working with Modern Litho, a Pure Power facility, to help us achieve this with FSC-certified paper and the use of BioRenewable vegetable-based inks in their energy-efficient printing facility.
FSC certification ensures that paper products come from sustainably managed forests. This means the wood used for paper is sourced from forests that are responsibly managed to preserve ecological balance and support local communities. FSC certification helps paper and printing companies demonstrate their commitment to environmental sustainability and provides consumers with assurance that the paper products they purchase support responsible forest management.
As an Ameren UE Pure Power Partner, Modern Litho supports the generation of 77,000 kWh of wind power through their commitment to Pure Power and new green power sources. This annual commitment prevents the release of 114,833 pounds of carbon dioxide, the environmental equivalent of planting 745 trees.
These materials and production certifications help paper and printing companies reduce their environmental impact, support sustainable forest practices, and meet the growing consumer demand for eco-friendly products. The whitewater rivers we cherish are but one part of the larger ecosystem that includes our forests and energy production methods. We hope you’re as excited about this step as we are and we hope you enjoy reading the latest Journal with these improvements.
