Gunpowder Falls

1. Upper Gunpowder Strainer alert - there is a new strainer on the UGP that requires a portage. It is located at the top of one of the 'major' rapids on this section of the river. There is an island at the top of the rapid; most of the water flows to the left of the island (which is where the strainer is). The channel on the right side of the island is not runnable. The strainer can be portaged by beaching on the island above the strainer and dragging your boat in the shallow water over the right side of the strainer. The strainer is approximately 1/3 mile below the rail trail bridge below Corbett Rd (see map) and 1.25 miles above Glencoe Rd. There are additional new strainers on the UGP; all have at least a narrow passage to get through them. I'll post further information about them (including pictures) later in the week.
2. Power line hanging about 3 feet above river just above the Corbett Rd bridge (see map). I reported it to BGE tonight. The bridge is next to the intersection of Corbett Road and Falls Road.
