Oconee, Middle

On 12/15/18, myself and a friend boated this entire section starting at Tallassee Shoals and finishing at Ben Burton Park since I live in Athens and didn't feel like driving far to boat. Level was approx 2500-2800 on the gauge. The hike from the 2 car parking area to Tallassee Shoals is downhill and then upstream along the river. There is enough of a trail to make it relatively easy.

After these shoals, we paddled the 6 miles of flatwater encountering two (sewer?) pipes. We portaged the first and just barely made it over the second. Be careful and aware of these two pipes as they are a hazard - at least at the 2500-3000 cfs mark.

Ben Burton was a lot of fun. If I had less time, I'd just run laps at Ben Burton. Cool local run if you live in Athens.
