River Description

A short Class II run with some fun surf spots accessible from eddies and a few pool-drop rapids. Watch for wood hazards throughout. Best paddled during the first few weeks of spring snowmelt or following heavy localized rainfall.

There are three rapids concentrated at the start of the run. The first is Campground rapid (II), which is also the put in rapid. At medium to high water, there is a surging surf wave on river left with eddy service. The eddyline is fairly pronounced and this section is deep enough to get a boat vertical. Great location to practice stern squirts.

The second rapid is a class II S - Bend. There is a small pour over in the center of the first bend, generally not retentive enough to surf a boat. The water slams into a large rock on river right, that frequently collects wood. For the easiest line, head left of the eddy behind the rock.

Immediately downstream of the S-Bend is a surf wave on river right. There is eddy service on both sides. This is a significantly better wave than the Campground Rapid wave. Longer boats will find front surfing fairly easy. This wave generally has a foampile and is retentive enough for cartwheels and spins in smaller boats.

From here on out, the gradient decreases significantly. Be mindful for strainers and sweepers, especially on outside bends. There are some small boofs and fun eddies to catch on the float out. You've reached the takeout when you see a clearing on river right.
