Cowpasture

There are four cattle fences and two tree strainers between Rt 250 and the Shaws Fork/Cowpasture confluence at Liberty. Approximately 2 miles below Liberty the Cowpasture becomes braided and has a couple strainers that must be portaged; portages are not too difficult as the gradient is low in the braided section. Finally, there is a strainer on 2/3 of the river (passage on river left) just above the roadside takeout in Patna, above the Rt 614 bridge in southern Highland near the county line.
