F) Sec.4: Otter Slide to Big Smokey Falls (5.96 miles) ** Access Fee **

In spring, 2022, a big rock from the island shore had been pushed downstream (likely during 'ice-off') to lie in a very prominent and unfortunate spot in the landing pool. Miraculously, just a month or so later, reports are that the rock appeared to have shifted, and no longer causes any apparent problem!
Big Smokey Rafting is back in business selling permits for section 4. Contact them in advance via their Facebook page to let them know you are coming.
We drove up from Chicago on Sunday, 7/14/19, to find that Big Smokey Falls Rafting is no longer in business. You can buy a permit to kayak this part of the river from Shotgun Eddys, but you have to let them know by Friday at noon that you need a permit. They pick them up on Friday afternoon and will charge you $35 for the $25 permit. If you are in the area Monday thru Friday you can buy the permit from the tribal headquarters in Keshena.
