Stony River

Coming back from running near by Abrams creek, I was stopped by police in Mt. Storm. They were looking for boaters that had put on at Mt. storm power plant(upper stony) A plant worker had called the police to report trespassing, and the police had attempted to apprehend them. I later talked to the group that had paddled the Stony that day, and they had been unaware of the potential dragnet. Might be an access issue for AW to explore mbeswick@greenbrieracademy.com

Tried to run Upper Stony on June 6, 2009. There were blue No Trespassing signs all over the place where we used to park by the dam and carry down to the put-in. It would be hard to argue that you did not see them if they caught you on that section of the river. Looks like these signs were posted within the last couple of years or so. Access wasn't a problem just a few years ago. As of right now, I would forget about running the Upper Stony. We ran Lower Stony to the Laurel Run take-out on the North Branch that day and had a blast. Keith Merkel.
