Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportThe put-in/take-out locations in the 'maps' section are incorrect if you want to run the stretch with the double drop. The put-in is located off Frampton Rd. (near the intersection of 586/Pleasant Valley Rd., where you will see a covered bridge. The take out is as described by Ted Rowe, you will go over a bridge still on Frampton Rd. where you will see the double drop up river.
This covered bridge on Frampton Road (Licking County) is the launch point for Wakatomica Creek. Please note: one side of the bridge is posted as private property, so respect the privacy of the land owners and preserve access rights.
This picture is typical of the scenery on the Wakatomica. There are many sandstone cliffs and undercut ledges on this run. At minimum flows of 600 cfs undercuts are exposed and are not an issue.
The Wakatomica has excellent surf spots in beautiful surroundings.
Typical Wakatomica scenery that consists of sandstone ledges and boulders, and is a nice blend of what is experienced on the Millwood Gorge section of the Kokosing River, and the Black Hand Gorge section of the Licking River.
This double ledge puts the exclamation point on a great day on the Wakatomica, and is directly above the 4th bridge below the covered bridge at the put-in. This rapid can be 'bridge scouted' at this point. The best route is river-left and the sneak route is river-right. As with the put-in, the take-out is on private property. The land owner has been extremely generous over the years, so find a gravel spot along the edge of Frampton Road to park your take-out vehicle - downstream from the bridge.
The river-left route of the double ledge drop on the Wakatomica funnels into a slot that provides a nice finish to a great day on the water.
