A) *2026.04.15 WOOD UPDATE* MenFalls: Main Street to Arthur Ave (0.4 mile)
Alerts
Log in to add an alertAs of 2026.04.15, wood again largely makes this run too dangerous to boat.
1) After the footbridge in the lower dells, in the bend before Kiln Ledge, fairly significant sapling lies parallel to shore in the water. At strong flows, it will take significant skills to avoid encountering this tree.
2) Downstream of Kiln Ledge, the pool is backed up by a HUGE tree with many branches down in the water. The only exit from the pool is at far left. (Fortunately, that is generally the best line down Kiln Ledge, so you are lined up for the exit!) However, this should be looked at closely to ensure no other wood accumulates to close-off that passage.
3) It's clear heading toward the undercut wall, but not far beyond, another tree blocks the whole channel.
4) At the tight left-hand bend, a tree (with a trunk at least a foot diameter) has fallen across the flow. THIS WILL BE IMPASSABLE at nearly any and all flows!
Downstream of this point, random additional trees and brush may require maneuvering, but would be passable.
UNTIL THESE HAZARDS ARE CLEARED, THIS RUN IS ESSENTIALL CLOSED.
MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF DEADFALL MAKE THIS RUN ESSENTIALLY CLOSED! ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************* Starting in 2019, and getting worse each year, fallen trees have complicated passage. For a few years, it was possible (with scouting before putting on) to get around or through to do the full run. However, at this time, MORE THAN TWO DOZEN TREES TOTALLY BLOCK THE RIVER (at so many locations on this short run) as to effectively close the run at virtually any boatable flow. ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************* A tree lies diagonally across the entrance to the mini-canyon (upstream of the pedestrian bridge). It will be extremely sketchy to safely navigate (the combination of this and the undercut canyon wall) at nearly any boatable flow. ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************* The pedestrian bridge in the park is in disrepair and has been closed, so you cannot use it to scout the mini-canyon upstream and downstream. It will be necessary to scout the lower dells from shore downstream. As of 2025.02.27, there are some branches in here that are likely to move at first high-water. ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************* Below the pool at the base of Kiln Ledge, a large tree dangles many branches very low to the water, blocking the exit from the pool from all the the extreme left of the channel. Downstream of the 'Undercut/Overhanging Wall' (in the straightaway down to the 'Sweeping Left-hand Bend', multiple trees totally block passage (in one case, damming/backwatering the flow). ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************* The huge tree (formerly blocking in the 'Sweeping Left-hand Bend' has been sawed but not removed. It has swung parallel to the flow, rootball upstream, 10-15' of trunk downflow. This area is likely to catch additional wood. ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************* Downstream of that bend, multiple trees partially to totally block passage the remainder of the way to the listed take-out. ************************************************************************************************************************************************************* DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT RUNNING ANY PART OF THIS WITHOUT WALKING THE ENTIRE STRETCH FIRST!!! ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************* It may be possible to run a few brief segments or play a few features, but you have to decide if it is worth the hassle or the risk! If this has enough water to make any features worthwhile, then there are other safer and less complicated choices available nearby!
