Yuba, South
49 to Bridgeport
Alerts
Log in to add an alertAmerican Whitewater and SYRCL have recently become aware of two steel cable hazards on the South Fork of the Yuba River that may present dangers to paddlers.
One cable is currently present across the entire river just below No Looky, immediately before the Miner’s Tunnel flume reconnects with the river, on the Purdons to 49 section. The second cable is midway through the 49 to Bridgeport section, in between the first and second gorges at approximately river mile 4. The river makes a 90-degree turn to the right just after Starvation Bar. This cable is passable at lower flows but will likely become a hazard at flows above about 2,000cfs. It's about a half mile downstream from the big flat pool with the random cabin on the left. There is a noticeable tributary on the left just above the narrow corridor where the cable is. The cable is connected to the only large tree on river right seen at this time.
We are working with State Parks to identify removal solutions for both cables as soon as possible. In the meantime please exercise additional caution around both hazards and communicate them to other paddlers that might be paddling either reach in the near term.
