River Description
This is a tributary to the more popular Big Pine Creek, coming in just below the initial 'park-and-play' ledge section of that run. It stands to reason that the Mud Pine must drop across similar geology and gradient, thus provide some entertainment as well.
My recollection of sketchy information I have received from others is that this river is a little less straight, and the rapids are a bit more succinct (as opposed to the Big Pine where the initial gradient tends to play out as one long rapids with individual playwaves and holes). (Anyone having more specific information regarding rapids and play-spots on this run is encouraged to use the 'New Comment' button which should appear near the bottom of the page for all registered, logged-in users.)
This run is fairly short, and would mostly be done as a 'companion piece' to a run on the Big Pine.
The run (length and gradient as listed here) is just to the confluence with the Big Pine. It will probably be necessary (or at least, most convenient) to float an additional 0.7 miles (downstream of the confluence) to the next road bridge for take-out. Or ... continue the rest of the way down to the end of the (full) Big Pine run.

Put In
Drainage: ~88 sq.mi.
Drainage area at our listed put-in is approximately 88 sq.mi. (as calculated via USGS StreamStats Beta software). This is very nearly HALF the drainaage of the Big Pine at its gauge, so one should expect flow in this section to be HALF the listed gauge reading. (Correlation should be quite good, but is never assured.)

Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportWe went down Mud Pine last weekend (Aug 12, 2006) and there were a couple of livestock barbed wire fences across the river. Don't know if this is legal or not. As far as I can tell the legal navigability of Mud Pine has yet to be determined. Aside from that (and some low water) it was a pleasant trip.
