Trip Reports
Log in to add a reportThe River Management Society held its conference in San Antonio and spent a day out on the Guadalupe River learning about management of a high-use urban river. The group was hosted by Rockin' R River Rides and included lunch along the way on a run from Gruene Bridge to Cypress Bend Park. The flow was low but we had enough water to get down and the river was warm enough for swimming.
Surfing Hueco Falls
Class II wave train that forms about 1/2 mile above Slant at certain levels (referred to by some local paddlers as 'Spool', because there was once a giant spool in it)
Slant Surf Wave and Ant Island
Hueco Falls Surf Wave and Hole
Slant Surf Wave
Most of the time the river is not running that high, it is still a lot of fun to run. This is just river left of the wrap rock in the center.
Clutter Falls Class II+ one of my favorites in this section.
Common St. Dam at 4300 cfs
The wave at Slant at its optimal level
700 CFS
Hard to catch from the eddy at this level but still fun!
This is a fun run with four big rapids when the water level is up. There are some slow stretched in between with plenty of tubers to keep you entertained. You can park a vehicle and launch all your boats for one $10 fee just past the first crossing on the right. We usually get out right after the Gruene rapid and pick up at the bridge. There is lots of free parking in Gruene.
This rapid is immediately above Rockin'R, and one of the good take-outs.
