Peak runoff flows have arrived. Lots of wood and debris floating around in the eddies. But as of this writing, 5/16/24, there is no wood in play in the Canyon.

Couple weeks of runoff to go, tho. Stay alert.

Late in March of 2023 a rain-on-snow event activated some slushy avalanches that deposited tons of debris into the river in 10+ places along the length of the Canyon.

Literal tons of debris.

The river was briefly dammed -- you can see residue from the biggest slide pushed almost into the hot pools at Pine Flats -- but quickly pushed it's way through the debris.

But there are hundreds of trees moving around in the Canyon this year. I've only run it three times in 2023 as of this writing, but on each of those laps wood had moved and was *fully* in play in several of the rapids.

Please, please be careful in the Canyon this year. I would normally run it 3-4 days a week all through runoff, because it's such a fun place to be with high flows.

Given the wood situation I personally am going to be skipping the Canyon until runoff subsides and the water greens up so that we can see what got chocked where.

Be careful out there.
