Many blockagesRob Smage

As of 2026.04.18: A scout of this creek proves time, along with wind and emerald ash borers, have not been kind.

In the initial 0.1-0.2 mile (visible from Bonniwell Road) there are likely a half-dozen trees spanning this narrow creek.

At Hawthorne Road, the creek looks clear from the private driveway (and dam) to a sweet wave/hole just before the culvert. However, the culvert is 90% blocked by a log from the left. Strong currents would make it very dicey to catch a river-right eddy and sneak past the log in the strong flow into the culvert.

Not far downstream of the culvert, a massive tree and wood collection blocks the stream.

Untold amounts of wood are also likely through the 'disenchanting forest' downstream of Wauwatosa Road, and before you get to the take-out.

All in all ... consider this 'stupid boater tricks' run to be CLOSED!

With any creek as small as this, wood is a persistent problem. Any modest-sized branch or sapling can span shore to shore and block your passage, so expect at least a few portages. Since this is runnable so seldom, it is nearly impossible to accurately catalog where to expect snags.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ That said, for many years, a large (maybe 18'-24' diameter) tree has been down across the creek downstream of the box culvert (private bridge), just upstream of the power lines ... this is a mandatory portage. **************************************************************************************************************************************************************** ALSO, downstream of the final pitch ('Slip and Slide'), before getting to the railroad, the bike path, and the take-out), for years, there had been a massive long woodpile totally blocking the creek. I believe (some years back) the WIDNR or other entitie(s) came in and removed that blockage. However, over time, I expect this area is likely to amass a new blockage.
