Putin and takeout coordinates may have errors, as the dams are not obvious on the topo map.

While this area is not very appealing to the river runner, it is an excellant play spot. On river right below the putin is Typewriter. On river left on the other other side of the island are some killer surf waves. The river-left side of the waves are easy and they get harder towards the right.

Log in to add a reportThis could use an update. Great works and Veazie dams have been removed, making the Penobscot continuous to the Ocean from Milford dam. There is also a new, further upstream put in at a park in Old Town. There are 5 rapids on this section, 2 of them being one either side of French Island so you only get one of them. I have a detailed google map with rapids/photo and put in / take outs here:
